I am trying to machine a design using large and small bits. It's my understanding that a SC finishing toolpath should automatically carve away material left behind by a roughing toolpath. I have tried that, and I have tried using a specific "rest" milling operation, but the result is ALWAYS the same!

Hi Neeboy,
The SprutCAM finishing operations do not do rest machining based on remaining material by default, it is the roughing operations that do this. Generally speaking the roughing operations only machine the workpiece and because the workpiece for an operation is the 'Machining result' of the previous operation, this makes rest machining standard for the roughing operations. The finish operations do not consider the workpiece by default, this must be selected under 'Trimming' if it is required. I have altered your second operation (attached) to show this. If you use the 'database' settings there are more options available for rest machining............these include 'Theoretical' rest milling which allows rest machining to be calculated without first doing any roughing. I hope this helps? Dave

I have modified your project to show the use of a second waterline roughing operation (attached).
